The changing face of social media lands in my own digital backyard

TwitterIt has been a while since my last blog entry, but professional commitments have taken priority over the last few months.

In the meantime I did hop on the Twitter revolution with my (stephensander) Twitter account. Twitter is a great tool for communicating news updates of relevance in a very time-efficient and succinct manner.

Ironically, my lack of recent blog entries and increased Twitter activity is also a live illustration of the ever-changing face of social media as my own blog seems to have fallen victim of the observations I made in February this year.

The increasing use of extremely sophisticated mobile devices, such as iPads, iPhones and other smart phones, have provided a fertile ground for the further explosion of social media, in fact as I reported on my social media Twitter in July, Facebook has now passed half a billion(!) users …

While the dangers of social media remain the same, it is hard to see a future which would bring a reduction in the use of social media, although it seems that some novel solutions are being entertained by those who ‘burn their bridges’ online, including a change of name (Name change ‘won’t erase’ online past, ABC News, 19 August 2010).
