Security and mobile devices

The Electronic Frontier Foundation published a timely warning today regarding the security of mobile devices.

Although I am a strong supporter of mobile technology and appreciate the advancements it offers, I am also aware of the security issues this advancement in technology creates.

At this stage security on mobile devices is yet to be addressed adequately on an enterprise level, consequently the onus for security is on the individual. However, if you are using an Apple device, you should be aware of the basic functions of remote wiping lost devices and the ability of locating lost devices.

Apple has been particularly vigilant in building in security features that enable you to track your device or, if the need arises, delete information from your lost/stolen Apple device.

You should ensure that you familiarise yourself with these functions, especially if you are using your Apple device for logging into your employer’s system.
