We mourn with Charleston

I am deeply disturbed by the violent expression of hate and racism in the land that prides itself on democracy, equality and freedom.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal …

South Carolina is my grandmother’s home state, and the South Carolinians I know are the most hospitable and generous people I have ever met.

My deepest condolences and sympathies to those who lost loved ones, and the community. I hope you find the strength to carry on their precious legacy.
